Take me back to yesterdayIf you can forgive meI will stay by you only

Rough Erik/Charles fix-it for McFassy Tuesday! Based on this very lovely song right here (the original poster even has a graphic for the album cover!).
May or may not refine this in the future. Probably will, but I know not what lies in the future before me~*~*~*~*~*~*

I really wanted to draw a picture were Charles’s bullet scar is visible.
I hope you will notice it! :)

My headcanon is that Erik found himself completely consumed with feelings for Charles.  Consider: if we’re going off of movie canon alone, the man hasn’t had a single meaningful relationship as an adult.  (Yes, I know about Magda, but the movies don’t seem to.)  He has never even had a friend; he prefers to operate alone, or perhaps, can only operate alone.  Charles shows him something different, a feeling of family and belonging.  And as much as Erik tries to hold himself back, protect himself as he’s always done, he can’t.  He may look aloof compared to the others, but really he’s incredibly invested in a way he’s never felt before.  He can’t put into words what he has with Charles, but rest assured, despite not being able to vocalize it, it’s deep, deep, with a passion and focus to match his hunt for revenge.  Charles means more to him than he knows how to say.
Charles, on the other hand, even if he hasn’t experienced love yet personally, he’s experienced it in the minds and hearts of others, and he knows what it’s about.   It’s not some entirely new process to him because he’s experienced it secondhand in coffeeshops, airports, pubs, parks.  He’s not mystified by it the way Erik is.  He’s surprised, yes, to find himself in love with such a broken, dangerous man, but love itself is not completely foreign to him.  I almost think Charles is more surprised to find someone he’s on such equal footing with, because you know Charles has quite a superiority complex; I think it’s unavoidable in telepaths.  I think that adult partnership is what Charles misses most, whereas Erik also misses the sense of family, the friendship, and just plain being physically touched in a way that’s not violent, in addition to Charles himself.
The beach scene supports this, I think.  Yes, Charles had just been shot and thus wasn’t in the most forgiving of moments.  But it’s worth noting that Erik said “I want you by my side,” and Charles rejected him on the basis of their differing beliefs.  Erik wanted Charles; he wanted mutant brotherhood, too, of course, an expansion of the feeling of family Charles had reawoken in him.  But Erik said “I want you” first, and “we want the same thing” second.  Charles ignored the first bit and rejected the second.
…anyway.  Long story short.  I totally agree with this secret.  ;_;

So true.  Erik knew Charles and he saw things differently, and even that Charles disapproved of his choices.  Erik was the one willing to bridge their differences, Charles wasn’t.  To Erik, Charles is as flawed as Charles thinks Erik is, and yet Erik still wanted to be with him, despite that.
